We’ve given guests high-quality surf courses at Lapoint for more than a decade. In Sri Lanka, we invite you to pursue your dream of surfing amazing waves in beautiful surroundings at breathtaking beaches. Our local instructors have the knowledge and passion that will inspire you to surf more and grow your love affair with the ocean.
Beginner - 0-4 hours surf experience needed
Surf - Level 1
With mellow waves, few people in the lineup and beautiful surroundings, you have the perfect framework to pursue your surf dream. Immersed by the authentic surf culture in Ahangama, you’ll quickly feel like you belong.
Level 1 is for those who have never surfed before, or haven’t surfed in a while, and want another run-through of the basics. Our surf classes often take place in our home beach, Kabalana beach, the beautiful white sand beach just outside the camp, mellow waves of Weligama.
Ratio: Maximum 5 students per instructor
Intermediate - 10 hours surf experience needed
Surf - Level 2
Our surf camp is located close to some of the country’s nicest beaches and most learner-friendly surf spots. In level 2, we are on the hunt for nice mellow waves on soft white sand or safe reef breaks.
You’ll also find a range of other spots near the camp, where you can go for a sunrise or sunset surf to feel the thrill of improving your skills in mesmerizing surroundings.

Independent - 60 hours surf experience needed
Surf - Level 3
Level 3 is designed to make you feel increasingly confident in the water. Sri Lanka is the home of world-class waves, perfect for taking your surfing to the next level. Every morning we bring you to the best spots on the day, and our experienced instructors will encourage, guide and challenge you to become a better surfer.
When living at the camp, only a minute from the beach, you also have the opportunity to keep surfing and further fuel your fire outside of the surf lessons.

Surf Guiding — Find the best waves in Sri Lanka
Arriving at a new surf destination is exciting, but how do you figure out the best spots for your level, the right tides, and ideal wind conditions? That’s where our Surf Guiding comes in.
Our experienced team will lead you to the right spots at the right times, saving you the hassle of navigating and maximizing your time in the water. Whether it’s mellow peeling waves or punchy reef breaks, we’ll ensure you score waves that are both fun and manageable. Crowds and conditions are always part of the equation, so expect sessions where you can rack up your wave count and enjoy quality walls without the stress of logistics.
This is designed for advanced, independent surfers with a solid 600+ hours of experience. Please note that no equipment is included, so bring your trusted board to make the most of Sri Lanka’s tropical playground.

When is the best time to go on a surf trip?
Ahangama is a year-round surf haven, with gentle waves perfect for beginners and more powerful swells for advanced surfers. The dry season (January to March) features clean, glassy conditions, while the wet season (April to December) offers bigger waves and fewer crowds. With so many surf options and our guidance, you’ll find the perfect spot any time of the year.
