European warm water adventures

Fuerteventura has a flavour of its own. Here you will be met by old volcanoes, sand from Sahara and an island completely surrounded by azure coloured water. The feeling of the landscape is more that of western Africa, but the people and way of living will give you the best of the Spanish lifestyle. A surf camp in Fuerteventura is something you won’t forget.

Location

Off the beaten track

happy-surfer-beach

Some parts of the Canaries see huge hotels and a mass tourism vibe. But that’s not what we are about. After exploring the entire island, we found our home in the north center of the island in the town of Lajares. Staying here, we are ten minutes from all the great surf spots, whether we decide to surf on the north, west or east coast.

The hippie/surfer vibe shines through as you drive down the main road or stop for a coffee - you will find that this is the hub for the local surf community. The little town is growing fast and has all the essentials you need.

Whether & Seasons

Warm days & cooler nights

Skater in Fuerteventura

The island of Fuerteventura is a lovely place to visit throughout the year. The climate is pleasant, with warm weather and ample sunshine on most days. In combination with windy days, it gives us the perfect conditions for numerous outdoor and water adventures.

Daytime temperatures are between 22-28°C all year and night time between 15-20°C. This gives you warm sunny days all year to play, and cooler nights for a perfect and mosquito-free sleep.

Normally we use 3/2 wetsuits all year around, even if you might be able to surf in a shorty during the summer months. If you are frozen and have your own wetsuit, a 4/3 might be a good choice to bring for the winter months.

Volcanoes & azure coloured water

Volcano hike in Fuerteventura

The volcanic island of Fuerteventura is the southernmost point of Europe, situated south of the European continent and west of the coast of Morocco. Driving from the airport you will notice the beautiful colour of the ocean and the complete lack of trees.

You do not feel like you are in Spain, and the adventure feeling comes to life as you start crossing the hilly island with views of volcanoes everywhere you look on your way to the camp. There is plenty to explore and no shortage of hidden beaches if you look around.

What to expect

Living the Canary surf dream

“Eat, sleep, surf - repeat” is the classic description of the surf lifestyle. Although it’s close to the dream existence for most surfers, it is a bit too limited to describe the Lapoint surf camp experience here in Fuerteventura, Spain. The description of a Canaries surf adventure would be more like open up, explore, get social, surf until you drop and then go for a few beers - then do it all over again. Less catchy, but more fun!

In reality, our surf camp in Fuerteventura is truly amazing. In our eyes, its the best surf camp in Fuerteventura! The location is great, close to everything but still with a 100% local vibe. The water is warm compared to most of Europe, and if you choose Fuerteventura for your surf holiday, you can surf wearing just a thin wetsuit. Accommodation and food are all you can ask for and the scenery is amazing. Dry, rugged and without trees, it’s really something that grows on you quite a bit. We are confident that both the landscape and the people will have a place in your heart by the time you leave.

If you want to party, Corralejo is a 15-minutes taxi ride away and there you have plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from. Also in Lajares, where we have our surf camp, the town comes to life a couple of nights a week, bringing out the locals for a drink and some music.

To sum it up: This is a really cool surf holiday.
